    Going Digital
Read an interesting article that spoke about multimedia resumes being the new paradigm in the job search and hiring process. While no hard statistics on the growing use of such resume alternatives are available, hiring managers and human resources experts nationwide say they’re definitely seeing more applicants going digital with their resumes.

In this economic environment, more job seekers are looking for ways to stand out from the crowd, and some have decided the bedrock of the job search — the traditional formatted resume — needs to go the way of the Flintstones.

After years of being scoffed at by HR professionals, video and multimedia resumes are finally getting attention, says Joyce L. Gioia, a strategic business futurist and CEO of The Herman Group. “ In a tight labor market, people are doing everything they can so that their resumes don’t end up lost among endless piles of paper. Gioia believes the die-hards stuck in the HR past need to be more open to thie changing model, because “eventually ink on paper will go away completely.”

    Search Strategy - What Works?
Networking, referrals, Internet postings, company websites, direct marketing? You will find your next opportunity through one of these methods. The problem is that you don't know which one will ultimately result in the job you want. Of course, you can play the percentages and put most of your effort into networking, believing that will give you the greatest bang for your efforts, but can you really afford to put all your eggs into one basket? The simple answer is no. To be successful means you have to do it all. And that means having a carefully developed strategy, a well executed plan of attack and consistent follow-through.
    Focus on Strengths
A favorite tactic of job seekers is to look for reasons not to apply for a position. We review openings, ruling out opportunities because we don’t meet all the required specifications. Why not focus on why we should apply? Stress the positive, not the negative. Articulate your strengths as they relate to the requirements of the position, and provide examples of your experience that demonstrate how you can take the organization to new levels.
